3 Easy Ways to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Ganache

Once you’ve made your chocolate cake, you will want to finish it off with a tasty chocolate glaze. Although many recipes recommend finishing off a beetroot chocolate cake with a sprinkle of icing sugar, I prefer to use a simple homemade peanut butter chocolate glaze. It’s quick and simple to make, plus I’ve even given you 3 tasty alternatives to try, depending on your preferred texture and choice of sweetener.

I’ve added peanut butter to my chocolate glaze recipes but you can also leave out the peanut butter and create a simple sweet chocolate glaze instead. I find that the peanut butter gives the chocolate cake glaze a rich and nutty taste. It also helps to create a thick and sticky chocolate cake topping. If you want a delicious chocolate cake recipe to go with this chocolate peanut butter glaze then you should check out this beetroot chocolate cake here.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Glaze

Peanut Butter Chocolate Glaze With Icing Sugar

This chocolate glaze gives a smooth, glossy finish — similar to classic chocolate icing. If you’d prefer to make this a rich and sweet chocolate glaze then feel free to skip the peanut butter and just mix the icing sugar, cocoa powder and water together. I love this recipe for the fact that it gives the chocolate cake a rich and glossy appearance, which I find makes chocolate cake look really appetizing!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp peanut butter

2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tbsp icing sugar

2–3 tbsp hot water or milk (adjust for consistency)

½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

How to Make:

1. In a bowl, whisk peanut butter, cocoa, and icing sugar.

2. Add hot water or milk a little at a time until smooth and pourable.

3. Drizzle over your cooled cake — it will firm up slightly as it sets.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Glaze

Chocolate Cake Glaze With Honey

This version is shiny, rich, and tastes like chocolate-peanut fudge. It’s also a great sugar-free alternative to the icing sugar or castor sugar chocolate glaze options. If you want to opt for a sugar-free chocolate, free from refined sugars then just make sure you opt for sugar-free cocoa powder, natural 100% peanut butter, as well as pure honey.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp peanut butter

2 tbsp cocoa powder

2 tbsp honey

1–2 tbsp hot water or milk

How to Make:

1. Warm the peanut butter slightly (microwave for 10–15 seconds or stir over low heat).

2. Whisk in cocoa powder and honey until smooth.

3. Add a splash of hot water/milk until it reaches glaze consistency.

Caster Sugar Chocolate Cake Glaze Recipe

This chocolate glaze recipe uses castor sugar as a sweetener. It is traditional and rustic. This recipe isn’t as smooth as the icing sugar version, but it gives a deep chocolate flavor and lovely rustic charm. It’s perfect for creating an old-fashioned, traditional style chocolate cake glaze.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp peanut butter

2 tbsp cocoa powder

2 tbsp caster sugar

3 tbsp hot water or milk

How to Make:

1. Stir all ingredients together in a heatproof bowl.

2. Warm gently (over simmering water or microwave 10–15 seconds) and whisk until the sugar dissolves.

3. Pour over the cake while slightly warm.
