Do you feel as though you’ve lost your identity? Are you trying to find your inner voice and true purpose again after a traumatic event or life change? It’s normal to want to understand how to rebuild your life and become or rediscover your best self. One of the best ways to do this is through inner voice journaling.

How to Discover Yourself and Reinvent Yourself

You were never meant to disappear in motherhood. Or burnout. Or betrayal. Or business failure. But when everything you once trusted crumbles, the first thing to go quiet is often your own voice. Learn more about what is your inner voice, why it matters and how to harness it here.

It doesn’t happen all at once. It happens slowly, in tiny silences:

  • When you start making decisions from fear instead of truth.
  • When your body says “no” and you smile anyway.
  • When you stop dressing the way you like, stop writing things down, stop creating for no reason.

You forget who you are. And then, one day, you wake up and realize: you don’t recognize the sound of your own soul.

This is Part 2 of our Rebuild Your Life, Reinvent Yourself series. In this post, we’re discussing what it’s like to lose your inner voice. You no longer feel like you anymore and you can’t really decide what you like or don’t like. Here’s some tips and advice on how to reconnect to your life, your inner voice and your identity after becoming disconnected.

The Disconnection is Real

Identity loss doesn’t just happen after trauma. It happens in the quiet erosion of joy. It happens when your life becomes a list of tasks instead of a creative expression. It happens when you forget you have needs, desires, and dreams beyond survival.

This is not your fault. But it is your calling.

To come home to yourself again.

Signs You’ve Lost Your Inner Voice

    • You’re constantly asking others for advice because you don’t trust your own instincts

    • You feel emotionally numb or flat, even when things are “fine”

    • You can’t remember the last time you did something purely because it made you feel alive

    • You crave alone time but are afraid of what you might feel if you get it

    • You secretly miss the version of yourself that felt bolder, weirder, louder, more wild

If this is you, you are not broken. You are just buried. And you can be unearthed.

Three Practices for How to Find Your Purpose in Life

Knowing how to find your purpose in life and rediscover what it is that you actually like. Not as a mom, not as a wife or colleague or business owner or whatever role you’re holding today. What do you really like? What is important to you? What are you passionate about? Who are you? We need to connect with our inner voice in a way that enables us to hear ourselves again and listen to what really matters to us.

1. Sacred Silence (5 Minutes a Day)

Give yourself five uninterrupted minutes a day with no distractions. No phone. No toddler (if possible). No tasks. Just you.

Sit with a question like:

    • “What do I need today?”

    • “What part of me is trying to speak?”

    • “If I could do anything without fear, what would it be?”

Write the answers down. Even if they don’t make sense yet.

2. Style as Soul Retrieval

Start dressing for the woman you miss. Yes, even if you’re just at home. Wear lipstick, wild earrings, your favorite top. Put on a fragrance that reminds you of her.

This isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about embodiment. About reminding your nervous system who you really are.

3. Create Something Without Purpose

Paint. Dance. Voice note yourself. Make something that nobody else will see. The goal is not to share. The goal is to remember how it feels to create without an audience.

This is where your voice begins to rise.

Inner Voice Journaling Prompts for Reconnection

    • Who was I before I became __________ (a mom, a partner, a business owner)?

    • What did I love doing as a child or teen?

    • What parts of me have I silenced to keep the peace?

    • What would I say if I knew I wouldn’t be judged?

How to Find Your Passion and Rediscover Your Inner Voice

You don’t need to go back to who you were. You’re not here to rewind. You’re here to reclaim the parts of yourself that still belong.

And when your voice returns—even in whispers, even in fragments—you’ll begin to remember:

You are still in there. And she is worth listening to.
